Mostly he trained on Fight Night round 2 and also round 3 for a few weeks. Neither had Calzaghe, so his trainer custom made Calzaghe into the game. Lacy beat him every time he fought him like seven hundred and forty three times. After he lost to Calzaghe in the real fight, he said, "I don't understand. I was undefeated at Fight night round 2 and 3. I went like 860-0, with 860 KO's." Then he found out that everyone goes undefeated in that game cuz it's hella easy. He felt pretty ****** after that as you can imagine.
If he hadn't been in shape he could have never made it through that.
I think it was half style matchup, half pressure. After he lost the first few rounds he never mentally adapted. But physically he was in great condition.
Jeff Lacy was always a grossly overrated fighter, imo. When he made his debut in Y2k w/Ponchito Bojado, I laughed.
All I saw was an overgrown, muscle head that more fit for CALVIN KLEIN modeling than fighting.
Lacy had no jab, his power was severely overrated (see his fights against Ross Thompson and Richard Grant for references) and his defense was Corrales-ISH.
I'm not going to lie, Jeff scored a few KO's that somewhat intrigued me, but then he went on to fight neck and neck with Omar Shieka and struggled mightily with Rubin Williams. At that point, I was done.
Leading up to the Calzaghe fight, I 100% believed it was going to be a mismatch. Lacy is a slow fighter and slow thinker inside the ring. There was no way he was going to beat a fast handed and quick witted fighter like Calzaghe. No way.
Lacy should've just cashed in, fought Tarver, taken his beating and retired.
There's a richer career waiting for Jeff Lacy as 50 cent's body double in GET RICH OR DIE TRYIN 2.
Well I didn't see the weigh-in or anything, but from what I heard Lacy was RIPPED, cause I've seen people comment on previous weigh-ins when fighters like Haye come in looking superhuman, and they say "Well, Lacy looked like that for the Calzaghe fight, and look what happened." So he must have been in physical shape.
It had to be mental **** that got to him. Joe's workrate was just too much for him, and he never recovered, cause he got his ass thoroughly whooped for 12 rounds. On top of that he's had injuries recently to I believe his shoulder, so his career isn't going the way he would have liked. It's too bad, I liked Jeff.
As I said before, Lacy never even got into a fight.
Lacy is the type of a fighter, who needs a couple of rounds to get adopted and his reflexes need some accustomazation to his opponent. Joe never let him into a fight, he was just too fast and busy.

good reply, my thorghts exactly.
I dont think lacy will ever recover from that beat down he took.
but hey you never know if he lost some muscle and worked on his combination punching and got himself into a good mentaql state then maybe he could make a succesfull comeback. but after that beating then getting a serious injury, maybe he will never be the same and just fade into history as a overrated champion.
