Vazquez-Linares in the Works;
Vazquez to open Boxing Gym!
After being a part of probably the greatest trilogy in boxing history, Israel Vazquez was honored by Sycuan Ringside Promotions and Frank Espinoza’s High-Flying Boxing Club in a victory celebration luncheon that took place La Huasteca Restaurant, Lynwood, California.
“What separates the three incredibly tremendous battles between Israel Vazquez and Rafael Marquez and all the rest is this: All the other trilogies had one, maybe two great fights, but that was it,” said Scott Woodsworth, vice president and director of boxing operations of Sycuan Ringside Promotions.
“The fights that Vazquez and Marquez gave us produced three spectacular fights, with each one being better than the last. I have been involved in boxing a very long time and this is the best trilogy that the sport has ever seen.
“I’m very touched to be here celebrating the historical trilogy. I feel honored to have been a part of it,” said Vazquez. “It’s just now hitting me I was such a huge part of history. I have nothing but the utmost respect for Rafael Marquez and his team.
“The legacy I hope to leave behind is one that will let the fight fans always remember me as a champion. I didn’t back down because I am a true warrior for all time.”
Now that Vazquez, in the eyes of many boxing experts and fans, has made his case as the best Super Bantamweight champion many people are wondering what’s his next move? ********* learned that the champ will be taking a well deserved vacation, but that doesn’t mean he’s not thinking about business.
“There are talks about me moving up in weight to challenge Jorge Linares, the WBC Featherweight Champion. We are also considering a clash with Jorge Arce. Whatever fight gets made I know my fans will be behind me 100%.”
There is also the dream match against Marco Antonio Barrera, but Vazquez realizes it’s still sometime away. “I really think 130lbs is too much right now for me. But first things first,” says Vazquez. “If Linares gives me the opportunity I’ll move up the 8lbs I need to challenge him and capture my second world title. Then we’ll take it from there.”
In hearing of a possible match-up with Vazquez, Jorge Linares (WBC Featherweight Champion) quickly told ********* “That sounds great. Let’s do it. Israel, prepare yourself well and together we’ll put on a great show for the fans,” said Linares.
It’s no surprise Linares is eager for this match-up. It would be lucrative and another opportunity to fight in Vegas, something he really enjoys.
“It’s great to fight in Vegas, and a fight would Vazquez would be huge. It’s a great fight the fans want to see. I would use my height advantage and my boxing skills to neutralize anything Vazquez can do. I just have to watch out for his left hook. Other than that I think I’ll have no problem with him.”
One thing is guaranteed, Vazquez won’t be out of boxing anytime soon. Vazquez also revealed to us that he’s planning to open up a boxing gym “Right now we are looking for a suitable place with enough space for our purposes. Once we have that I promise you that ********* will be the first to know about my gym. I truly appreciate the fans have shown me and I want to thank everyone. I’ll keep training hard so I never let you down.”
