Someone over in Germany, a very reliable source, just posted a thread in boxrec.com stating that the IBF has granted an exception to Wladimir Klitschko, so he will be able to fight Thompson without being stripped of his IBF title!

He says it was reported today in Bild, a German newspaper.



It makes sense. He's a good champion for the IBF. Wlad's successfully defended the title four times now, so they would be ****** to lose him as their heavyweight titleholder.

IBF and WBO heavyweight champ Wladimir Klitschko plans to defend at least the WBO belt against Tony Thompson July 12 at the Color Line Arena in Hamburg, writes Bild Zeitung. However, it could be that Klitschko will have to face IBF mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin before facing Thompson. Yeah, but the thing is that they want the fight to be televised by a conflicting channel and that adds up to the issue. I mean they pretty much want the fight on their terms which are unacceptable for the Klitschko camp because of the business issues. Also, the money they offer is russian money(comes from the russian source) and you can't trust that money either.

These guys DON'T want the fight, even Povetkin himself admited to it that he needs a couple more fights before he is ready to fight Wlad.

Exactly. No way Wlad can fight on a Sauerland card in violation of his German TV contract (like it says on espn). This is not a sincere offer from Sauerland, just a ploy for some $$$ and publicity.

Das Unternehmen „Heimspiel“ läuft an. Erstmals nach acht Jahren Pause kämpft Doppel-Weltmeister Wladimir Klitschko (32) wieder in Hamburg. Wichtig: Am Dienstag erteilte die IBF über Präsidentin Marian Muhammad in New Jersey Klitschko auch die Sondergenehmigung für den WM-Fight gegen den WBO-Herausforderer Tony Thompson (36).

Hintergrund: Eigentlich hätte Alexander Povetkin (28) aus dem Sauerland-Stall der nächste Gegner sein müssen. In einem Turnier hatte sich der Russe mit Siegen über Chris Byrd und Eddie Chambers qualifiziert, um den IBF-Titel zu kämpfen.

Diese Titelverteidigung muss Wladimir jetzt aber erst bis Ende November erledigen. So die Bedingung der IBF. Marian Muhammad: „Sonst wird ihm der Titel aberkannt."

Das Trainingslager wird Wladimir Klitschko im noblem Bio- und Wellness-Hotel „Stanglwirt“ in Going bei Kitzbühel aufschlagen. Im Schatten des „Wilden Kaisers“ wird ihn Trainer Emanuel Steward für Thompson schleifen.

Derzeit wird in der Hamburger Zentrale der „Klitschko Management Group“ noch an dem neuen TV-Vertrag mit RTL gearbeitet. Der Kölner Sender wird aber sicher auch die nächsten Klitschko-Kämpfe live übertragen...

Interesting, btw, some food for thought, many on the russian sources think that Wlad is so eager to fight Thompson because Toney is a southpaw and Wlad just fought a southpaw in Ibragimov so it is going to be easier to prepare for another one. Don't know how legitimate is this argument though.

I don't buy that. What's better for Wlad than an orthodox fighter without a massive punch who will stand right in front of him?

Thompson isn't great but he's trickier. Povetkin all but begs you to hit him with a right hand

Yeah, I have to agree with you. I don't think that Wlad's training tempers with his motoric functions to the point that he will be at an ailment if he fights Povetkin next.
