speed is for the most part, natural, but it can however get enhanced. don't sweat all of the smart-ass comments made by people on here man. what i did to get my handspeed up, because i was naturally blessed with speed, was shadowbox a lot but i didn't start off shadowboxing fast, i took my time until i got my punches to look very sharp and thrown correctly, because to have speed, you have to have a lot of stamina, and you have to have your upper and lowerbody movement in tact for it to be effective in any combat sport. i used to punch with wrist weights on, but i didn't have to do that a lot, it helps, but you don't have to depend on it. you can punch any object to get your speed up. like, at my job, i punch the carpet, and i throw left and right hooks to it, but remember, you have to work on your technique, it really enhances your speed effectively. technique is the foundation of effective handspeed. that means, more jumproping, more jogging, more footwork in the gym or outside the gym, whereever. always have one aspect right, before the other. it's a combination of things. work on your jump roping to get your footwork faster, this enhances your power also in the longrun. work on jogging to keep your stamina and endurance in tact. speedbag training is crucial also. but when you shadowbox, your speed enhances most by having the right foundation, which is your footwork. like, throwing a jab a few times, and moving around, fading with your jab an dmoving around, throw a left or right hook depending on what hand your are naturally. throw uppercuts also, and then learn to incorporate all of this into your shadowboxing routine, and eventually you'll see an increase in handspeed, but stay dedicated to this, create your own style. of course, you'll have to spar or maybe even get into a couple of slap boxing sessions, maybe eben a few fist fights to see how effective it is, but i wouldn't push for the fist fighting part, sparring is good enough. remember, your hands are only as fast as your stamina allows them to be, if you get tired fast, you'll slow down, it's a natural response. i haven't fought actively for years, but i still shadowbox, punch everything in sight, not hard neccissarily, but to keep my hands sharp, and fast. pullups, situps, and pushup with wrist weights also helped me out, but find your own workout regiment. what works for me, may not work for you. i do a lot of pullups to keep my shoulder blades strong enough to have quick snaps to my punches. take your time, it'll come. i hope i helped you some buddy. you'll be fine i'm sure. pm me and let me know hopw you're making out.
