Joshua Clottey, the IBF Welterweight mandatory, might get screwed if Cintron isn't able to retain his title. Kermit, who hasn't defended against a mandatory since defeating Matthysse last July, is expected to defend against the #1 ranked, and mandatory challenger Joshua Clottey if he gets by Margarito next Saturday. However, if Margarito wins, Bob Arum and his Top Rank promotion company have decided that Margarito is to face Cotto if he's victorious, thereby either having to vacate the IBF strap (which I highly doubt as Arum has been touting it as a unification match) or leaving Clottey out in the cold, waiting even longer for a title shot that he has worked hard to earn and rightfully deserves.
I'm not saying that a Cintron - Clottey or Margarito - Clottey rematch is better than a Cotto - Margarito fight, I'm merely saying that Clottey has earned his title shot and shouldn't be screwed over by his promotional company. Now, nothing is set in stone, but the Cotto - Margarito rumblings have been about us for quite some time and it's practically a given if they both win this weekend.
If Arum does screw Clottey, I think he should find himself a new promotional company; one that will look out for his interests.
