Was Corrales Really P4P When He Fought Mayweather?

I just don't believe this. I need to see some proof. I don't know how wins over Roberto Garcia, Smoke Gainer, and Angel Manfredy are enough to get someone anywhere near a P4P list...

Corrales was considered the best Super Featherweight by many when he fought Mayweather. The Ring had Corrales as their best 130 pounder with Mayweather second.

And he was number 5 on their pound for pound list.

If you're asking for a general consensus, then no he didn't deserve to be. The media ranking him as high as they did back then seemed to be a knee-jerk reaction to Floyd's squabbles with Arum. If I'm not mistaken, it was around the time of Floyd rejecting the contract Arum and HBO had negotiated on his behalf, and his "slave wages" comment being blown way out of proportion.

Chico's placement in the P4P rankings came around that time (I think right after the Manfredy fight) - the first issue in which he was ranked, he directly replaced Floyd at the #5 spot. To go from on the bubble (at best) to Top 5 without a MAJOR win (for example, actually beating Floyd) reeks of bias and/or personal favor.

This thead seems to be another shameless hater attempt to discredit the ring accomplishments of PBFM. Diego was undefeated in 33 fights & ranked #5 P4P & ranked #1 at 130 by the Ring magazine when he fought Floyd. He was the favorite in the fight & was thought by many to be the next big thing in the sport but as he has always done Floyd won the fight. then after the fight was over the Floyd haters did what they have always done they tried to discredit Diego.

the win should in no way be discredited. Regardless of who you had ranked ahead of whom, there's no question that they were the top two junior lightweights going into the fight, and Floyd tore through him like he was an unprepared sparring partner.

But it is a legit argument to question Chico's lofty P4P ranking at the time. If anything, it should discredit the whole P4P theory (or at least The Ring's rankings) but not the accomplishment itself.

I still rank it as Floyd's greatest performance - and for the record I picked Chico to win going into the fight.

P4P is bs anyway cause it's all subjective. Some might have had Chico as p4p I didn't. I did have Castillo as p4p though so it's all relative.

Floyd was amazing that night, hes still great of course but I think this was his real peak.

Corralles may not have really been pound for pound top ten material when the fight happened but he showed alot of heart that night and came back to become a genuine pound for pound fighter.

Diego's performance that night may have been offset with some genuine personal troubles outside the ring.

I'm not trying to discredit anyone. I'm wondering how such a weak resume got him onto the P4P...
