    Hands up, but really needed?

Coach is always telling me hands up, but whenevr I watch pros they have one high and the lead hand low usually and only put both up when getting flurried.

    How come?

its whatever works for you best to tell you the truth. keeping your hands up will prevent the other fighter from scoring easily and will keep you from sleeping if you have a weak chin. but if you have the speed of Gamboa or Judah, it may work for you better to keep them down. if i were you though, id keep them up.

Because getting hit in the head a lot really hurts. And judges notice that.

Unless you have the cat-quick reflexes of a 90's Roy Jones or the chin of Oliver McCall, your coach is giving you excellent advice.

I put my hands up only when I need to. Most of the time they're down and it's not a problem, whatever is comfortable for you works, you just have to work at it.

            Listen to your coach!

All fighters started with a coach tellling them to hold there hands up.

Once you are experiance enough, you will develop your own style. But again listen to your coach! And practice.

It's never a good idea keeping your hands down, not just for defense but also for a quicker offensive attack. Even for the pros that do it you have to wonder how much better would they be if they kept their hands up?

Your coach isnt telling you anything wrong..Prime example...Look what happen to Jermain Taylor when having your hands down(he got KO by Pavlik)..Its always good to work on keeping your guard high..It will pay off in the long run IF you plan on taking up boxing as a pro.
