I can't believe people still believe Joe Cortez was a major factor in Mayweather destroying Hatton. Was it Cortez's fault that Hatton ate a million lead rights?

There are way too many dumb boxing fans out there.

Cortez was out of line in that fight even fighters admitted he affected the fight...for instance Roy Jones onf FNFs.

If he micro manages this fight like he did the Hatton fight, Hopkins should be worried.

How was he out of line? Because he didn't let Ricky Hatton turned a boxing match into a wrestling match? Are you serious? The only thing I can see questioned is the point deduction. Besides that, people are grasping at straws. Floyd was clearly the superior boxer throughout the fight. With that said, there's no need to even think Cortez played a major role in the outcome of that fight.

He played a much larger part than any referee should have. Splitting Floyd and Rick up as soon as it started, I knew he was gonna be an annoying bastard. The point deduction (for a shot that didn't even land, and the cause of the "almost" foul was Floyd) was ridiculous. But by intervening when there was no good reason to, you could say Cortez stepped over the line too often, it was like he was protecting Floyd at every possible opportunity.

If Cortez refs the fight exactly the same as the Hatton fight. I'll love him.

              Hopkins would be ****ed.

Ha ha, I cant believe it. Funny thing with Joe Cortez is his inconsistency. He really let Hatton have his own way with Castillo....people forget he refereed that fight, the fight immediately before Mayweather.

As for Calzaghe, Cortez will either show him favour to neutralise the criticism of the Hatton fight.........or he'll react badly to our English fan's notorious booing of the American anthem, which lets face it will likely happen.

Referees should be unbiased and objective, to be honest I think he'll do a good job, if he doesn't the he'll find it hard to shake off the criticism from the British contingent.

It wont happen, because the national anthenms arent going to be played.

Furthermore, he didnt get an opportunity to 'let Hatton have his own with with Castillo' because the fight didnt last enough to get into dirty tactics. It was infighting, but it didnt get particularly dirty.

I will be very curious to see if Cortez is all over Hopkins like he was to (an inside-fighter) like Hatton. For me personally, I thought Cortez ruined that fight. I don't understand why he was all over Hatton and not letting him get his work done on the inside.

You can bash Hatton all day but if you think he is a "dirty" fighter, you know it goes 3 times as much for Hopkins. Cortez had better be consistant in his actions.
