The most dangerous fighter is an underestimated one. Anything can happen in a fight. But I hope Cotto takes it. Gomez fought a Gatti that is old, punchy and confused. If he would've fought gatti lets say at the time hgatti was getting ready for DLH Gomez would've been creamed

Gatti was a great action fighter, but let's not get crazy here. In his prime Gomez would have probably still beaten him because for one, Gatti is just too small for Welterweight at the top 30 level or so. Power is the last thing to go in a fighter. Gatti was able to land on Baldomir consistently in their fight and it did nothing(granted Baldomir has an iron chin). He didn't land on Gomez much, but the few times he did, same result. Gatti never proved he could hang at Welter. Two, Gatti was never really more than a B level fighter with A+ heart, he struggled with solid boxers/tough journeyman throughout his entire career because you can consistently put hands on him, so if you could take his punch or evade it, he's there to be hit, which is why he ended up in wars with the likes of Ward. That never changed. Three, Gomez didn't barely win, he completely dominated Gatti and imo Gatti was past his best, but not that far past it. I would see it being a bit more competitive but Gomez probably would have won a clear decision or late stoppage.

that all being said, why don't ppl give him a chance against cotto?? gomez is the bigger man here also, a natural welterweight, and cotto hasn't really shown he's supposed to be in the welterweight division. i give him credit for beating shane mosely, not b/c of mosely's status (b/c, lets b real, mosley is past his prime) but b/c cotto was able to adapt in that fight, and he actually BOXED! to me that was the biggest win of his career, and lets be honest, a win over shane mosley at this point shouldn't propell you to elite status......and cotto's win over the "iron chinned, all guts no glory judah" well..............
gomez just sounds really focused, like he's been waiting for this for a long time, and cotto is good, but not unbeatable. gomez is no hopkins, but this fight reminds me of the hopkins-trinidad fight in 2001. gomez is beginning to sound like hopkins did b4 that fight(minus the theatrics) and i think the world is gonna be shocked come april 13, and april 20th too for that matter!!!!!! and they got gomez as a 6-1 underdog, you gotta be crazy not to take this bet!!!

Cotto has proven he belongs in the division, he has arguably the best resume at Welter. He beat the current WBO Welter champ in five rounds, and though Zab and Mosley came up from lower weight classes, both had proven themselves throughly at 147, Cotto beat both of them. Urkal is the only guy Cotto's beaten at Welter that doesn't belong there. Also, Gomez is not really "bigger" than Cotto. Cotto has come in on fight night weighing in the 160 range since his days at Junior Welter, Gomez weighs in at about that range on fight night also. Gomez is taller and longer than Cotto though.
There are lots of reasons why Gomez isn't given much hope, but the principle one is that Cotto has beaten a top class elite fighter in Mosley, and semi-elite fighters like Judah and Quintana, most in definitive fashion. Gomez hasn't really been in with anybody that qualifies as even a semi-elite fighter. On sight, it looks like Cotto has virtually every physical advantage except length. Cotto has very good boxing skills, he's not a one-dimensional fighter, and his level of performance is usually consistent. There's not much to suggest that Gomez can win.
All that said, rooting for Gomez. He does bring some things to the table that Cotto hasn't faced yet, so hoping that factors in.

Cotto is not a proven welterweight but gomez is, that's pretty ******. Gomez is Miguel gift for beating Judah and Mosley, both much better fighters than Gomez, and he's going to enjoy destroying Gomez.
And actually Gomez is a 10-1 underdog and even at 1,000,000 to one take it because I'm going to lose my money just the same. But go ahead take the bet you sound like you're ****** enough to do it, but come April 13 the only one that's going to be shocked is your wallet.

The guys on the weaker end of lobsided matchups have no choice but to make statements like this.. anything less would be even more ridiculous.
