unfortunately, that wide open style only worked against heavy versions of Whitaker and Zuri Lawrence...

now, Ibragimov couldnt even put a dent in ancient, war torn to bits Holyfield.
No, it was just that Mayweather had him pulling back after landing a few punches, to avoid being cut by a Holyfield head butt.

    Here's another Sultan KO:

Uh, pulling back or not, he wasnt punching with any authority at all. He must have thought that a headbutt would have killed him if what you say is actually true. I have a hard time believing Ibragimov(or Mayweather) was THAT afraid of a headbutt...

and Ive already seen a good deal of Ibragimov, but thanks anyway.

Of course they were very concerned about headbutts, there was a world title at stake! If Sultan would have lost to a 44 year old, it would have looked bad.

I know a young Russian-American sportswriter who spoke regularly to Sultan before the fight, and he said it was definitely a big concern. Sultan said after the fight the night he was on ESPN as a guest, that he was extra cautious because of Holyfield's "third glove."

Sultan's buddy Mike Tyson had been warning him about it too - remember why Mike got angry and bit Holyfield's ear? He had been repeatedly hit by sneaky head butts from Evander in both fights.

everyone knows about Holyfield's headbutts, but how in the world would Ibragimov have lost that fight because of a headbutt? Holyfield was so past it its not even funny, and only won about two rounds. the worst that could have happened is that there could have been a cut in the first four rounds and the fight would have been a NC. after that, Ibragimov would have won regardless of headbutts or not.
Headbutts happen. If Ibragimov was that afraid of them, I really dont know what to say.

I must have seen a hundred fights lost because of cuts. If the referee doesn't see the sneaky headbutt - and they often don't - then it's often assumed to be caused by a punch. So if the referee doesn't see it, it's a TKO win for Holyfield. Besides, a cut over the eye can cause blood to flow into the eye. Sultan was cut (not badly) by a headbutt in the first round, but Holyfield never landed enough punches to open it and cause serious bleeding. Remember what happened to Maddalone in his fight with Holyfield last year?

That being said, I thought Sultan was being too cautious in the last four rounds. Although Holyfield nuthuggers will disagree, I think Sultan might have knocked him out.
