    Bernard Hopkins Media Interview Transcript

Kelly Swanson: Thank you everyone for joining us today for Bernard Hopkins conference call. As everyone is well aware we are soon approaching Hopkins v. Calzaghe Battle of the Planet in the Planet Hollywood Ring this Saturday, April 19 in Las Vegas and live on HBO. Tickets are still available and we've noticed a very swift pick up in ticket sales but there's still some available. Tickets are still available by calling 866-US FIGHT or online at planethollywood.com. Regarding credentials if anybody has any questions with regard to credentials you can contact Steve Flynn at SFEPR 702-889-2704. And I quickly just want to mention we are in final stages of our fight week's schedule. We actually have a very packed and full fight week schedule starting on Monday with the fighter's grand arrival into Planet Hollywood, followed by media workouts with both fighters on Tuesday. The press conference will be on Wednesday. Wednesday night we have a special Planet Hollywood World Movie Premier that the media will be invited to. That's 88 Minutes staring Al Pacino and that is the world premier so that'll be a lot of fun. And then on Thursday we will have trainer round tables. Friday will be the weigh in and extra – and of course on Saturday the fight. And Planet Hollywood is also planning to have boxing movies playing both on Tuesday and Thursday nights in the media center for something extra to do which I think is great and ties in with their entry into boxing themselves. So we're looking forward to being at the Planet Hollywood for fight week and both fighters are ready to go. And now before I turn the call over to Bernard Hopkins I would like to welcome to this call Oscar de la Hoya who is here today as the promoter for Golden Boy Promotions, the President of Golden Boy Promotions and Oscar will make an opening statement and then he who is taking time out of his training will return to his training and we will go forward with Bernard. So Oscar if you'd like to please start. [details]

I WOULDN'T dare comment on anything in this PR article of Bernard's life story. I was just intrigued by his complaining that no-one mentions his KOing this fighter "Blaine Johnson" 32-0. A good point thought I, and stopped reading further. I'd had oversaturation anyhow, and still couldn't figure out where the "gems" lay.

So I looked it up. It turns out to be GLEN Johnson, and everything Hopkins said was accurate. Then, recalling that Johnson took this fight on very short notice (10 days or so, I think) I checked a little further. This was Hopkins' 35th fight, so he himself was more experienced, and he'd been fighting far better opposition than Glen, including Roy Jones, so I checked further.

For the 17 fights before Hopkins, Glen had only once been within the middleweight limit, often super-middle and even lt-heavy. So he had a weight problem to solve in a hurry too. AND, the records of Johnson's 17 opponents totalled 177 wins, 267 losses......... Not exactly the kind of preparation you need to face a SUPERFIGHTER. Maybe THAT'S why no-one mentions it.

I know that no one is saying it and everyone thinks it. I know Bernard is tired of it to but after Joe their is 1 fight and its a fight that you say you dont want or need. Maybe you dont but you always talk about the boxing public and it is ROY JONES JR. So he is not at the top but dont get it confused he is right now at probables a B- and for him its building confidence. He has had to re-invent himself and you have also had to. If hes an easy fight then take it, I know your not scared to fight but why not get back your lose and just him up for good. Roy is in the spot were you can be The Executioner. You say he is the easy win . Go get it. I think with every fighter their is always another guy, waiting thier that the public says well Bernard has tyo beat this guy then he will be this. I think the rare thing is that you might be the first guy to beat all of them but it still ends with Roy Jones Jr.

You're a hater, ever heard what Johnson said about the fight?? That's the only time in his career somebody completely shut him down, he felt helpless. Loser. By the way, what about Joe Lipsey, and the fact he was an undefeated fighter with a lot of hype and in one of the most brutal ko's ever Hopkins retired him. Calzaghe is not even close to being in the same league as Hopkins, I see Joe getting destroyed a la Trinidad.

"But everything is fine. Everything is great. I'm up in the mountains in L.A. and getting, you know, once a week and just, you know, mentally and physically letting everything come in to play. And, you know, Mackey Shilstone and I was up 5:30 West Coast time this morning doing our regular routine. And, you know, I got, you know -3:00 excuse me – training and, you know, my vitamins, my food and, you know, everything is a military. When I say military everything is by the clock. And timing is everything. You know it's just like you're in the ring"

          I don't know.

            .
That was the transcriber's error. He also spelled Joe Louis "Joe Lewis"

He also said "at the end of the day" a lot too.

I think Joe is rubbing off on him.
