He fought the best fighter in the world, he came up short .. Plus he fought outta his weightclass.
140, I dunno. This would be a fight with alot of body work, they both got average chins. I think Hatton COULD pull it off, but I don't know.. I'm leaning towards Cotto, but Hatton was more natural at 140 than Cotto.
Cotto didn't seem to have much of a chin when he had to weight drain himself and his jab was never as good at that weight.
Co-sign. Cotto would **** him up now but Hatton's stamina and workrate were strong as hell at 140 and Cotto was more vulnerable chin-wise and conditioning-wise. Superlightweight is a Hatton decision, Welterweight is a Cotto stoppage.
Everything seems to get completely overdone these days. When a guy loses one fight he is suddenly a complete piece of **** or if a guy who has fought no one and is unbeaten, people think he is actually the greatest ever fighter! It's just weird, but also typical of our times and the thinking of society at large.
Hatton is neither a bum nor a great champion. He is just a good champion for his particular time and that is about all there is to it. There is no need to overrate him or underrate him.
He beat the aging, reigning champ who had dominated for a decade which threw him into the spotlight and has since beaten some semi decent challengers but never really done anything worthy of the HOF and then lost to the best fighter today above his weight class. That's all there is to it. He's good and a champion but certainly nothing special and no better than any other champion who won a belt and kept it for a while.
Everyone gets too excited over nothing. It's kind of freaky.... There is just not that much to it.
