I think apart from the ring accomplishments, his legacy will go down as reviving the sport at a time MMA was making a move. Maybe he may not be fighting who yall want him to fight, but anything he does now is an event, and they mention boxing, I mean i dont think its a coincidence that boxing PPVs are doing bigger numbers now. If Floyd were to retire today boxing wouldnt be on the rapid rise like it is, so instead of crying that he wont fight so and so and he should just retire so the best can fight, I think yall should see the bigger picture and realize even if he is semi-retired and fighting once a year, everything he does gets attention for boxing and is making it again more mainstream, now is this really the guy yall want gone???
what a load of B.S.............boxing is alive cuz of fights like vasquez and marquez.......cotto vs torres.......castillo vs corrales.........pac vs marquez ......these are classic ****ing match ups that people will remember.........not floyd vs dlh.........floyd vs hatton.........its plain and basic common sense ............

I know 5 people who started boxing in 2007 because of all the excitement of the Calzaghe fight and Hatton to some extent. Boxing is back in Britain.

            Not really.

Not in this country at any rate.

The thing he has going for him is that he is the best.

All Floyd has done is bring attention to himself. He's done nothing for the sport as a whole. The majority of casual fans cant stand him. He has a repulsive persona about him, and they dont really care for his safety first/defensive style. He's were he's at due to his very carefully protected 0. Once that's gone, so is his marketability. The only reason people are still tuning in to see him, is in hope that he loses or gets ktfo. Trust me, if Floyd had a 38-2 record, he will not be having any fights on ppv what-so-ever.

It's amazing that a fighter who has such a hand-picked resume as Floyd gets so much positive media attention.

He's not really doing anything for the sport! People who watched Mayweather vs. De La Hoya said it was so boring they couldn't watch all of it. Floyd Mayweather has caused the sport of boxing to actually lose fans.
your an idiot thats the only REAL credible opponent calzaghe fought

Floyd hasnt fought the best at this weightclass, but he has fought the best at superfeather i.e Diego corrales and he fought the best at lightweight
i.e jose luis castillo and those names are more credible than mikkel kessler
who has overnight became a credible name for no reason i mean who has
heard of mikkel kessler till calzaghe beat him ........

Thats bad and i give calzaghe props for being so famous somebody he beats
is famous, but Floyd has the WAY more credible record and i wasnt even counting zab (some may argue that after he lost to baldomir he magically
became a shot fighter) and arturo gatti .... nope wait i take that back arturo
                  was shot.

this is prolly one of the worst threads ive ever read. no offense raysan. your a good poster. but floyd didnt revive ****. he helped get some attention but it hasnt revived boxing. yes, floyd is out on the world doing whatever he can to get some eyes on HIM, not boxing but HIM. the casual fans who have seen mayweather fight arent impressed by his fights. as soon as something happens that casual fans dont like, they just toss it away. if floyd really revived boxing, he would have gotten longterm customers for boxing. wrestling fans are not longterm customers. housewives that watch dancing with the stars are not longterm customers. its ridiculous to think that casual fans are now watching boxing again because floyd is doing everything BUT boxing.

A that's cool man, ain't knocking you. Remember now...it's takes TWO to tango. Floyd Mayweather's decision making will prove to be costly. He's got a first class ticket into IBHOF when he retires, but those question marks will follow him through every aisle. his name will always be mentioned AFTER, and never Before Ray Leonard, Roberto Duran, Thomas Hearns, these are true ATG fighters. Proven time and time again, Ay, who can blame Floyd, I'd probably get my ribs caved in too, If I get in the ring with Cotto!

believe it....should Mayweather RETIRE without clearing ANY weight division, especially the much talented Welter Weights, those question marks will be riding on his back like that Asterisk follows Barry Bonds like his shadow.
