Erm amaters "need" more protection than the pros because they are amatur and ppl may think there is a bigger risk of them getting hurt also how many ppl would still watch pro boxing if the boxers came in wearing headguards?

      I'm guessing not as many.

You wear helmets to avoid cuts.

It's a myth that the headgear limits the impact of punches, it doesn't.

It's there for one reason, and one reason only; To prevent you cutting up your opponent.

            bingo.

Amateurs fight more often. The fights are shorter but with competitions they can be fighting pretty regulary.
Since that is the case they don't want to be getting cut as that can ruin the whole tournament for them. The general public thinks it is to reduce punch impact and stop brain trauma but it is really only to stop ****s.

yeah guy above has it mostly right, another reason is that cos amateurs arent paid they shouldnt have to risk themselves as much as pros, and yeah, depending on where you live an availability of opponents for fights you can have an amateur fighting 10-15 times a year, whereas top line pros usually fight every 3-4 months

                Football players wear helmets.

                Hockey player wear helmets.

                Nascar drivers wear helmets.

I don't see a shortage of spectators in those sports...

International top level amateurs can have as much as 30-40 fights a year.

Actually Football players dont wear helmets, NFL players wear helmets. You Americans stole OUR games name and told us we were playing Soccer....No, your playing soccer!

Yes but those sports aren't about hurting/beating people up they are about winning a race, winning ahocky game and beating the other team at nfl.
