RJJ/Tarver I. We had never seen Roy have to dig deep and sweat at the scorecards, but I'll never question his desire to win. Also, I'm gonna show some love to the ATX and Brian Vera for staying in the pocket and taking 2 to land 1 for the upset over Kronk's Andy Lee even though he's not a "skilled fighter." Sometimes, every now and then, courage trumps skill.Last edited by The Texican; 04-02-2008, 05:06 PM.Comment

After seeing the Benn McLellan fight, I thought I'd just seen the biggest display of boxing heart possible, from both fighters.
But one fight I think tops even that is Graham Earl v Michael Katsidis. I honestly think it was the most brutal fight I've ever seen. It was actually like the fights in Rocky, where every punch lands, but they just keep going. At one stage Earl's corner through in the towel, and the referee threw it out! In the end Earl's corner pulled him out because even they thought he'd been hit too much.
How Graham Earl kept going, I do not know, but the man who fought Amir Khan later was not the same fighter we saw that night.

I'm not going to focus too much on the "didn't think they had" part.
Great example. A good recent example was Joel Casamayor. Dude got slapped around for awhile when the momentum shifted and was knocked out of the ring, but he got up and later landed that homerun shot to beat Katsidis.Pernell Whitaker rallying from behind to KO Hurtado.
Judah against Cotto is a good example. James Toney against Vassiliy Jirov is another example which comes to mind. As said by someone else, James was in "boxing purgatory" for a number of years after he fought and lost to Thadzi. That fight was example of will and skill overcoming will. Not too many fighters could have withstood that relentless assault which Jirov brought that night.Comment
