It's Official: Vitali's running for mayor of Kiev

Vitali Klitschko officially registered as a candidate for mayor of Kiev this morning. The election will be held on May 25.

He says if he wins or not, he'll still be fighting Sam Peter. Can you imagine the mayor of Kiev as heavyweight champion?

Since he has chosen to fight for the title, I'll be rooting for him, although I think it would have been wiser for him to stay retired. But I'm worried that after the long layoff he won't be the same world-class heavyweight as he used to be, and he may be injured by one of Sam Peter's illegal rabbit punches.

If he wins, he won't be fighting Sam Peter - but he says if he doesn't win, he'll begin training for the WBC heavyweight title fight.

Although I'm a Klitschko fan, I think he should simply retire and let his younger brother unify the heavyweight titles.
I hope he wins so that he doesnt come back he is just holding everything up I wanna see Peter vs Wlad or Chageav vs Wlad.

In another interview I read that he'll fight Peter no matter what, win or lose the election. He should retire though, going back and forth on his promises and fight does not win him any fans.

Agree. I think he should retire straight away. His heart is not dedicated to boxing any longer.

It looks like my sig is gonna hold a while longer.

Why doesn't he retire right now? He's holding up the HW division and if he doesn't win the mayor we have to deal with more of his bull.

Vitali will not be the same if he fights now.

The layoff was too long, and in someone's mid-thirties inactivity causes a more rapid and serious decline than for someone in his 20s.

If he returns, he will be eight years older than Ali was when he returned, and about the same age as Ali was when he fought Holmes.
