Mikkel Kessler today updated his website with some info on the Miranda cancellation. It seems like he doesn't interfer with negotiations at all. I think there might be a little twist brewing with Team-Palle in the paragraph I have highlighted. Here's the exerpt:

"My manager chose to cancel the fight against Edison Miranda because the contract didn't fulfill our demands. I haven't seen the contract my self, but I have full confidence with my manager's choice.

My ambition is to become world champion again and I think that fighting Edison Miranda is a step down slope instead of up. Now my managers are looking for other opponents that can benefit my career in a positive way.

Edison Miranda is apparently trash-talking calling me and my crew all kinds of stuff, but I haven't read his statements and feel like it's a waste of time to look them up."

Kessler should get rid of his manager.

The title belts are alright but they are nothing but paper unless you establish yourself as the number 1 in the division and defeating Miranda in front of the US audience is a fine way of doing just that.

After dealing with Miranda he should focus on unifying the titles once again.

Yes. But he follows the advice of his manager who has 50 years experience promoting boxing. Palle is ill however. And old. Maybe he has lost a step.

No, his manager made the right decision. Kessler has nothing to gain by fighting a journeyman, albeit a dangerous one.

He's better off going for a fight that would lead to a world title, either at super middleweight or light heavyweight.

Tunney I always appreciate your thoughts. IMO Miranda would have given him the US exposure he wants. I dont think anybody else has got the guts to step in the ring with Kessler. The champs will avoid for as long as possible for sure.

So I cant see any big fights coming up.

Defeating Mundine or Danny Green (or whoever is fighting for Green's vacant LHW belt) won't do any more for Kessler than defeating Miranda.

He has already defeated the 'regular' titleholder Mundine and Green's belt is meaningless, he is not a major player at all in the LHW division.

It is possible that picking up Green's belt would lead to bigger fights because the titles are being unified by the top LHW's. If that's their plan, then it could turn out to be a good decision.

Lucian Bute would be a good win for Kessler but it's still a much bigger fight for Bute than it is for Kessler.

Defeating Miranda in front of the US audience, especially if he does it impressively would mean a lot more. It would be a hell of a fight to watch too.

Miranda is not a journeyman at all, hes a serious threat at 168 and the only guy to really beat him was Pavlik. I think that Kessler can pull it out but if hes not ready or still damaged from the loss to Calzaghe, then it can be a disaster.

Miranda's not even in the top ten super middleweights as ranked by Ring Magazine! He's never held a world title, and lost to the only two world class fighters he's faced.

Former titleholders like Taylor or Lacy would be better names for Kessler's resume.

Am I supposed to believe that he didn't see the contract?

His manager is an idiot, I don't care what anyone says a win against Miranda would do wonders for his career if he wants to make it big in America.
