most people cant even really agree on when a fighters prime is tho, thats the problem.
Ive seen all of Calzaghe's major fights...against Reid, Mitchell, Lacy, Eubank, Veit I and II, Sheika, and Kessler(but not Brewer) and I honestly thought he looked his best against Kessler and Lacy...
I havent seen as much of Hopkins tho. what would be considered his prime?
calzaghe as always been a far better boxer than hopkins in every sense and would never have been beaten of him imo at any point. He's just too good for people like Hopkins
Hard to say, their styles would always give each other problems. Hopkins was at his best at around 1997-1999, Calzaghe from 2001-2003. Calzaghe is a very good boxer, he goes a little wild at times but he can be a very good textbook boxer. Hopkins was much more active and was very good at offense and defense but wasn't as technically sound as Calzaghe but his rough tactics and smarts could give Calzaghe trouble. Toss up IMO.

I would guess from 1997 to 2001.
The Glen Johnson and Tito Trinidad fights are IMO his best performances.
