will calzaghe gain respect from beating hopkins?

I dont think calzaghe will gain any respect from fight hopkins people will say hes old and over it.

If calzaghe fight pavilk and beats him people will say pavilk wasnt in calzaghe league.

so who do u think calzaghe should fight to gain the respect of the american fans?

Probably Hopkins, Chad Dawson, Pavlik, Clinton Woods, Glen Johnson and Antonio Tarver.

RJJ wouldn't hurt, and then maybe James Toney.

I think if he did all this, he would be pretty much undeniable, but sometimes it seems as if there is nothing Joe can do to get respect in the US. Of course all this is never gonna happen so...

If I had to pick the one that would gain him the most respect (after the Hopkins fight), I'd have to say Chad Dawson.

Dawson is too inexperienced and isn't a big enough name. I'd say Pavlik, but i think this would be an easier fight. Pavlik is a poor mans Kessler.

It definitely wont hurt but I think it also depends on how hopkins looks that night. If he looks to be in physically good shape and puts on a good/competitive performance it will be much better for Joe, especially if Hopkins fights again and wins against a decent opponent.

I agree with your views on Pavlik and Kessler. It just seems to me that Dawson is the one with the most 'live' credentials and most respect on here.

At this stage Calzaghe needs names. Chad Dawson is not a name, he's beaten nobody. If Kessler doesn't count for some, how can Dawson???

A lot of Americans already give Joe a lot of credit...

I think Pavlik is the golden boy at the moment. There was a poll on espn that said 60% think he would beat Calzaghe. That is the fight he needs to aim for. Alternatively if Taylor gets a good win at 168 he would be a good name aswell. Both would be even better!
