Limond touted for world title bid

Barry Hughes aims to set a date for his new intercontinental lightweight champion Willie Limond to fight for the vacant IBO world title this week.

"When you win the intercontinental you are in the top 30 and can fight for the full title," said the promoter after Limond out-pointed Martin Watson.

"I'll hopefully deliver that date by the end of the week."

Limond said: "It was a good display but I must improve. My aim is to get the full title before the end of the year."

The IBO's title is lightly regarded in comparison to those of boxing's main four sanctioning bodies - the WBA, WBC, WBO and IBF.

The IBO...............is not a world title.

Anyone see the Ricky Hatton fight adverts.

Against the former WBF Champion Juan Lazcano......what the **** is thw WBF is that the one Audley Harrison won?

I would like to see a rematch between Khan and Limond.

Guys, who really cares if he gets an IBO shot or whatever. Getting worked up about it just makes the IBO seem important or prestigious. I don't care if a guy wins the IBO in his first fight. To me its meaningless. And even when Hatton had it, I never called him a champion with it

We have enough trouble trying to declare one champion. There's going to be many, many more organisations, and we have to fight against them by not giving a **** what they sanction and not acknowledging people that hold them.

This isn't against the OP anyway, thanks for the information, good to see where Limond is at in his career, wasn't aware he'd fought recently..

Me too. As far as I'm concerned, Khan should have been counted out after that knockdown. The referee stopped counting at 8, if I remember? Then Khan went down on one knee. No way was he ready to carry on at that point.

Thats probably true, but no way were they going to allow Khan to be beaten then. Think of the money involved. Either way I'm pretty sure its a moot point, look what Khan did to Limond afterwards. Khan decimates Limond in a rematch.

Yeah, the counting was terrible there.

It would be nice if Limond got another shot and another pay day but I doubt it will happen.

Yeah, Kahn will have learned a LOT since the first fight. Limond won't have imo. Be a quicker stoppage this time around. There won't be a rematch anyway.
