Is the Gomez & Margarito camps making this a Puerto Rico vs. Mexico rivalry?

I was over at the Gomez site and on a couple of his videos it says that Gomez is not only facing a champion, but an entire country. I also read somewhere that Margarito has been going around saying that he is going to be the "Boriqua Killer" or something like that. That he's going to dispatch of Cintron and then Cotto.

Can anyone explain to me the history behind the whole PR vs. Mexico rivalry thing? I've heard that when it comes to boxing both nationalities really go at it.

They are both Chicanos, Mexican parents but born in America.
