I like the scoring system, I just don't like the judges ability (or lack thereof) to use it correctly. I like the high paced fights. There might not be as many knockouts, but there is also a lack of godawful boring mismatches with one guy not even trying to win.

I think it's a different sport to a certain degree. It's like 100m sprint to a 5mile race. It's running, but the physical and mental abilities and the set of skills required to succeed are different.

In amateur boxing you can utilize a lot of technical stuff that you won't get away with in the pro's (not for long anyway!), because of the helmet and thicker gloves. In my opinion, and I know I'm gonna get flamed for this, world level amateur boxing requires more athletic ability than to pro boxing. Professional boxing is more about endurance, grit and a hard head than athletic ability. Imagine Ricardo Mayorga competing as an amateur. This guy was a world champion, but he wouldn't stand a chance at that level in the ams. Why? No real athletic ability, just endurance and the will to take two to deliver one.

I think it's a matter of personal taste. I happen to prefer amateur boxing and 100m, but I like both pro boxing and long distance running.
