Ali WAS notorius and talked alot of **** about his opponents, but his life OUTSIDE of boxing is what made Ali a global icon. The political and social atmosphere of his era was far different than it is now. Ali was a figure and messenger of social change which made him loved by those who sought justice and equality and hated by those who denied and feared change. Since the country and world was collectively moving in a positive direction, the voices of those who felt Ali was a threat were drowned out by the praise and acceptance of those who welcomed change.

The parallels between Ali and PBF are many of course. Both were considered to be the best of their eras. Their promotional antics are very similair in the way they sell their fights, demeaning and offending many with outspoken behavior and arrogant banter. But that is where it stops. PBF does not stand for anything other than himself and money. The world cheered and accepted Ali because he stood for something immaterial. He was the people's champ. Where as Floyd, well, like I said, there isnt much he stands for but himself and his money.

Man The dude said it his self....
Their has to be a good guy and a Bad guy....

and he has choosen to be the Bad guy...

Like i said before I don’t think WHAT Floyd is doing is a bad thing....
Some of the most "Famous and successful" people history has ever known
Have been more "Notorious" than Popular... or Have been "Notorious" before they became "Popular"

                Al Capone
                2pac
                Biggie
                Ali
                Malcolm X
                Kobe Bryant
                Terrell Owens
                Deion Sanders
                Britney Spears
                Charles Barkley
                Scarface (Tony Montana)
                The list goes on....

Floyd will become a Fan Favorite one day. but right now I dont see no reason to stop what he is doing... THE **** IS WORKING....

"If it aint broke dont fix it..."

He tryed the good guy role early in his career it didnt work..
Now he is the ultimate bad guy and it's working....

Floyd is smart and his being a "bad" guy is calculated. He realized why WWE and comic books are so popular among males 12-28. Its because they put BAD guys vs GOOD guys. He realized that he wont win the good guy title against fan darlings like Gatti and DLH.

PBF probably increased the ppv buys of his fights with DLH and Hatton by 50% just with his **** talking. DLH and Hatton fans couldn't wait for PBF to get KO'd and for the "bad" guy to be vanquished.

If Cotto, who has a more exciting fighting style (Gatti-ish in his ability to get hurt and come back with KO's). If Cotto played up the bad guy role like PBF does he would be making twice as much as he does now per fight and DLH would've fought him (better style matchup) than PBF.

PBF plays a good bad guy to but he will never ever ever ever be as popular as Ali. Ali transcended sports and was a cultural icon.
