Mikkel Kessler aims for World Title Shot

A showdown between the Colombian Edison Miranda and Mikkel Kessler will for certain not happen, announced promotor Mogens Palle to Ritzau.

"First of all, the contract that we've received, does not live up to what we agreed on. Second of all, Miranda is ranked lower than Mikkel Kessler. And what we're working on is, what Mikkel is most interested in, for him to become world champion again," said Mogens Palle

He won't deny, that Kessler could meet Miranda later in his career.

The American tv-station Showtime had scheduled the fight to May 24th, but for good reasons the Americans now has to change that.

"We're sorry to disappoint Showtime, who is very interested in having Mikkel Kessler on the program, but on the other hand we have to take into consideration, that Mikkels biggest ambition is to become world champion again," said Mogens Palle

Bute or Mundine would be my guess .. It's just not a good move not to have a tune up.

As much as I can't stand Miranda, I respect him as fighter, he's got alot of heart, but he has no belt, and if that's what Kessler wants, then it's obvious he won't fight him.

kessler v eddy is a good fight for fans, but Palle has a point in that Edd is lower ranked and thus does not make sense overall.

He's already beaten Mundine, and Bute has a paper title that was stripped from Calzaghe (who won it from Lacy). Bute is not the divisional champ, no more than Miranda or anyone else is

Kessler is a *****, I can't believe that ****. I still believe he is a good fighter but this **** looks like he bitched out. Miranda isn't even the better boxer, but to me it seems Kessler is afraid of the big bad panther

So what do you all think?

Smart move by Kessler to go after a champion and say **** the Miranda fight?

I think he should've went with a tune up fight, a guy such as Lacy would be perfect for that. Beat the living hell out of him and then gain some confidence, let him gain his confience back in his jabs and his power.

Exactly the right move for Kessler at this point in his career. No disrespect to Miranda, but as we've both agreed in another thread, Mikkel has nothing to gain from fighting him.

It's not fear, it's just good business. Kessler no doubt has balls for the simple fact that he took Joe C's offer to fight him in on his own soil and put his belts on the line. Mikkel is a respectable man. I don't know how anyone with more than 2 braincells can doubt that.
