Look at a guy like Librado Andrade. His skills are lacking, yet he wins fight and has only lost one. He's all heart, determination, will and chin. Most of his fight come to down to will and if his opponent can last. Kessler was the exception because he's smart, skilled, and has heart and determination. The better skilled boxer should win, but sometimes they don't.

I get a kick out of people that think Kessler has only fought bums. I'd hate to get in the ring with Andrade, a guy with a granite chin and decent power that keeps fighting no matter what.

No one can doubt that Lee had more skill than Vera, but heart and determination won out.

Prime example that skills dont always win fights>>> Forrest/Mayorga. Every fathers day, Forrest has to send him a card.

However, two recent fights have made me question my stance.

J M Marquez has superior boxing ability to Manny Pacquiao, he has better technique, better defense and amazing footwork. Pacquaio is a stronger puncher and throws punches slightly faster. Pacquiao got the decision.

Rafael Marquez also has amazing technique, well honed skill and superb footwork, some of the combinations Rafa landed in this fight were truely amazing. Israel Vasquez comes a close second on the mentioned attributes but punches harder.

Both excellent close fights but in both the boxer was beaten by a stronger puncher (not to say Vasquez isn't a boxer). So the question begs, does skill win fights or will a stronger puncher shine through in certain instances?
