...It's interesting how we consider someone like Halle Berry or Barack ***** to be black, when they both have a white parent.
For the simplification of racial identity in American society, we defer to the visual index. That is, if a person looks black, that person is black! It doesn't matter if one's skin pigmentation is light, medium or dark; if only one parent is black, a person is black! It doesn't matter if the other parent is white (Halle Berry), asian (Tiger Woods), or martian.
It's analogous to rounding-off to the nearest dollar: $0.50 = $1.00. Half black is black by virtue of the visual index. If it has the characteristics of a duck, it is a duck! If a person looks black...
Latinos are spanish mixed with natives of whatever region they're from(portuguese if you're brazilian). So they have white in them but they aren't white even though some may look whiter due to a dominant gene from spain or portugal as oppossed to amerindian. I have a buddy who is 6'3" and pale, and both his parents are about 5'6" and dark. True story, and they are his biological parents.
