Junior Witter to fight Timothy Bradley on May 10

Junior Witter will defend his WBC light welterweight crown against No.1 contender Timothy 'Desert Storm' Bradley on May 10.

American Bradley, who is unbeaten in 21 fights, was due to do battle last week with Jose Castillo - who lost to Ricky Hatton last year - but the tough Mexican failed to make the weight.

So 34-year-old Witter's camp have decided to step in this spring.

Dominic Ingle, Witter's trainer, said: "Bradley was due to fight Castillo in a final title eliminator but that was cancelled due to him not making the weight yet again, so we decided to take the fight now.

"Bradley is a tricky opponent for Junior, but it is a fight he is happy to take.

"The WBC wanted Junior to fight Bradley in September, but as there are no other credible opponents around, Junior wants to take it as early as possible so he can work towards unifying the division. We hope to line up a fight with IBF champion Ricardo Torres later in the year and, once Junior has the two titles, see where that takes him from there.

"But he is hungry to unify the division as quickly as possible."

A venue for Witter's clash with Bradley has yet to be decided upon, but it is more than likely the pair will meet in the United States.

It's good they didn't wait until September, because the long period of inactivity wouldn't be good for either fighter.
Witter hasn't fought since September, and Bradley's been inactive since last August.

Bradley is a good young talent, but he's taking a major leap up in class. I think this fight may end up being on Showtime in the US.

Bradley might prove to be tough but Witter should definately have the edge on experience.

But if he does get KOed by Witter, maybe he'll come back and win a title the way Witter did after his loss to Judah. A loss early in one's career doesn't mean it's over for him.

And there's always the chance he may upset Witter.
