More competative match-up = more upsets

Most upsets come about cuz everyone bets against the guy who's lesser known. That doesn't always mean he's inferior and has no business winning. As long as a talented underdog fights with heart and wants to win instead of just going the distance and gettin some respect Balboa style, he can win a fight people think he shouldn't win.

I agree for the most part. I also think Hype has the most to do with it. You can only pad someones record so much before they have to step up a bit, then there is a chance of them loosing. Lee was all hype it appears, he was put in the ring with someone he was supposed to take out easily but look what happened. What if they got what they wanted and fought pavlik? That would be a 1st round ko.

You can only go so far in boxing fighting bums and building a record, then when you finally have to fight someone that has a small chance to win and they whoop your ass, thats what I call hype.

People say Quintana/Williams was an upset but I did not think so. Cotto made Quintana look bad, but who has Cotto lost to yet? The only reason it was declared an upset was because Williams did not live up to his hype that everyone was putting on him.
