    Brian Vera Vs. Andy Lee

    I will be honest...
the stoppage was the worst i'd seen in a long time...i agree exactly with what teddy atlas said about all about fighter safety but the stoppage was premature...

i think the fighters should be protected, but come on...andy WAS hurt a little bit there but he was punching back...he showed he wasnt out on his feet...he was still in it.

If it wasnt stopped there would andy have gotten out the round? probably...could he have been knocked out in the 8th? maybe...but we dont know that now and never will.

i say it wouldnt be out of line for a rematch...

i was pulling for vera but really didnt think he could do it...

andy lee didnt fight on the outside after about the 3rd or 4th round...he was slowly allowing vera to fight inside and he was busting him up...

We did see though that vera needs some help with launching big wide shots...andy was winning early on because of that...vera was punching wide and lee was landing straight jabs inside those wide punches...

the ref shouldnt have stopped it.

If lee learns to not just fight on the outside but fight on the outside for the whole fight he could win a rematch very easily...

and vera commited quite a few fouls...i seen rabbit punches (that the ref never really seen) and he held a hit quite a few times too...

It was a good stoppage at a bad time. You could see that Lee was going to get stopped one way or another, however, I would have liked too see a little bit more before the stoppage.

However, with the punishment he took in that round, I cant really argue with it.

i agree with you on the fact i think the way he (andy lee) was going in the fight he was going to get stopped but he for sure wasnt ready to go at that point...he's still punching and he wasnt anymore dazed than he had vera dazed earlier in the fight i say the ref should have let him go.

Good point by !! Shawn. Good stoppage, bad time. Within the context of the round as a whole, that fight had to be stopped. The ref simply misjudged the moment. (Though, it should be considered that Vera's punches were doing significantly more damage than Lee's; Lee's straight left, which he landed on Vera's chin at will, had not been too effective at changing the course of the fight, despite its many opportunities).

I've been in matches were the guys punch didn't hurt, so who cares about taking one on the chin.

Now, Lee looked wobbled but not stoppage hurt. I mean he landed a few good punches just before the ref jumped in.

Maybe Vera shots were worth taking to land some.
Maybe I 'm off my rockers?

Lee brought this on himself with his unintelligent gameplan to slug but Vera seemed to absorb his shots with a superhuman ability. Vera also was allowed to come into the fight at 162, not smart when facing a guy who is naturally bigger and Vera looked very thick in that post fight interview. Maybe Lee will learn now he aint Superman.

I agree, with the, it was a good stoppage at a bad time. Lee was clearly hurt by nearly every shot landed, and it wouldn't have been much longer before he got dropped permanetly. He was throwing back but having no effect on Vera with his determination and chin. There was no denying Vera tonight.

The round was almost over, Lee threw a power punch before the stoppage, however he had no legs left and was getting pummeled by Vera, he was going down anyway so the ref should of waited a lil' bit longer.
