Are there Last Minute Replacements for big fights?

I mean literally what if a boxer gets real sick 10 minutes before the fight, or breaks a bone, twists or pulls something while warming up or on the warm up. If this happens is the fight canceled?

i read on boxrec that this actually happened in mexico, world title fight. The challenger got real sick and a guy in the crowd who happened to be a boxer in that weight class and happened to be ranked by that santioning body, well donut in hand he said he would fight and borrowed the gear from the sick fight, he was on weight and well he went on to win a 12 round decision.

I guess they wouldnt let that happen in America?

Remember the guy that won the 12 round decision against that ranked fighter. The replacement that almost died because he was stabbed and left for dead. What was his name again?
