I think he could be in the discussion... I think the SPEED of which he threw his punches had a lot to do with how powerful he was.

he is a serious candidate, but George Foreman by far was the harder puncher. he was bigger, undeveloped in skill in his younger days, but storng as a bull. tyson was quicker, lightning hands for his build, but he did knock out many of his opponents with accumilation of shots, but he did have one punch ko in his hand. but foreman was slower, very heavyhanded and could take you out with one punch more consistently.

just look at the frazier fight, sure frazier was knocked down by lesser punchers than tyson and foreman, but george lifted frazier up with his shots.

He was fast and had a great uppercut, but he was definitely not the hardest puncher.

I think Foreman and Shavers are both above him

When Tyson lost his speed/technique he wasn't that successful. He was still knocking some guys out but they weren't world class.

Foreman and Shavers for example never had any kind of speed and still knocked top fighters out simply because they could hurt with one punch.
Eventually they would land and then it would all be over...

              Frazier gets blasted.
Joe was a tough guy who could take a punch, even when he went down against Bonavena (who could punch hard too) he came right back and won the fight.
Just watch 01:20, 02:40 or 03:20 to see some raw punching power.

If you don't think Frazier could take a punch, look at the uppercut he absorbs from the much bigger Manuel Ramos at 01:10.

              Holmes vs Shavers (watch 02:18).

Anyway, Tyson was still an incredible puncher and you can easily make a case that he is one of the hardest punchers of all time.

foreman was a harder puncher than tyson, not shavers. tyson and shavers had the same power. tyson was quicker. perhaps tyson might even be a harder puncher than shavers.
