With a guy with serious eye problems...

David Reid sure did get a lot done in the short time he had to fight. He won Olympic Gold and turned pro with a serious eyelid injury that he sustained from Daniel Santos in the '95 Pan Am games. According to an ESPN article, "The muscle lost its elasticity, making it sag. Doctors estimated he would have about a year before the eyelid impeded his vision enough to make boxing too dangerous."

Yet he fought on as long as he could, saving his money because he knew he couldn't fight forever. He won a world title in his 12th fight, fought Tito Trinidad for mega money and essentially retired afterward. Not bad, really.

God only knows what he could've done if his eyes were healthy.

True. I wonder if that question haunts him. Is he satisfied with what he accomplished, the money he made- or does he sit awake some nights with the nagging curiosity of how far he could have gone? How much he could have done with perfect health. Does he feel cheated for having to stop, or vindicated for achieving what he did while he could?

Interesting, I didn't know about Reid having eye problems. I wonder how far he could've gone without the problem and how he is today? Hopefully, he's doing well. He still accomplished a lot though.

Thanks for the link. It seems like he has saved his money well and is OK financially but mentally, it's got to be devastating for him.
