Editor: Tarvis, I’m hearing rumblings about a possible fight with undefeated powerhouse “Mean” Joe Greene. What can you tell us about that?
Tarvis Simms: I’m definitely interested in that fight. I hope it’s as real as they say it is. I’m already in shape. I’ve continued training since my January 18th fight fell through getting good sparring in, and I’d fight him tomorrow if I had to.
"You know what you’re getting with Greene. He’s got a rating and a reasonable title. Those are things I’d like to add to my resume. He’s a strong up-and-coming fighter. I’m still a young fighter, my skills are all there, and I can punch hard. I’ve got the speed and he can’t deal with it. It would be the kind of fight that the fans wouldn't forget.
Editor: Since both of you have power, do you believe this fight will be decided on who lands first?
Tarvis Simms: No, because I got a good chin. His chin is questionable. I know what my possibilities are, and he won’t be able to deal with it. My experience will overwhelm him, and I’m eager to prove that. Talk is talk. I’d rather get in the ring and match skill for skill.
Editor: What is the biggest advantage you hold over Greene?
Tarvis Simms: My boxing ability and my experience. I’ve been around the block. I’ve seen every style, and I don’t think he’s on my level. He punches hard, he’s a entertaining fighter, but so am I.
Editor: Would you work on anything specific in the gym when preparing for Greene, or will you do the “just being me” preparation?
Tarvis Simms: That would be up to my trainers to decide. We’ll get tapes on him and point out things he does wrong. I know he loves throwing counters. It will make for a very interesting fight. We’re both undefeated, and it will be a great fight to watch on on any network. I hope these rumblings become more than talk and Joe is ready to fight another contender. I want to become champion he wants to become champion, we're both undefeated and if we fight somebody O has got to go and I promise you it won't be mine.
Editor: What would you do if you land your best shot against Greene and he is still standing in front of you?
Tarvis Simms: I’m going to hit him with another hard shot and he’ll be out for the count. One thing about me: I’m a real good finisher. If I get you, you’re going out.
