I got my copy of Ring in the mail today and.. Does anyone else think its a little su****ious that Oscar De La Hoya is on the cover for his "Exit Strategy: Is Oscar Ready For His Biggest Challenge Ever?" story? Boxing has been great so far this year and there are plenty of great fights on the Horizon yet Oscar is on the cover? I'm not bashing Oscar but I can't help but consider the possibility that Goldenboy owning Ring Magazine is a slight conflict of interests. I personally don't think he should have gotten the cover for this story. In my opinion should "Exit Strategy" should take a backseat to more relevant stories. I realize Oscar is boxing's best seller but.. If Goldenboy didn't own Ring Magazine I really wonder if he would have had the cover this month. Just my opinion.. Any thoughts?

I agree with you, however i think a magazine with oscar on the cover is more appealing to a causal sports fan at a newsstand than say a marquez-vazquez cover..They are tryin to sell as many of those as possible ya knowI got my copy of Ring in the mail today and.. It's hard to say. When Tyson was first released from prison in '95, he was on the cover almost every month for at least a year. It got to the point where fights like Morrison-Ruddock (a heck of a fight on its own, but by no means the month's biggest story) were making the front cover just as an excuse to tie it into Tyson.
So when I see that, or issues where Oscar appears on the cover when there's already so much else going on in the sport, I take it more as a tell-tale sign of rapidly declining sales than Oscar flexing his corporate muscle. But I will add that without Golden Boy... excuse me, a subsidiary of GBP... as the principal stakeholder, it's more likely that Pavlik-Taylor II, or even Wlad (depending on the issue's cutoff date) takes the cover.Comment

Excellent response. I think buying Ring is a hint of potential shenanigans to come by team Goldenboy. It's hard to say. 11 votes to 1.. Ring shouldn't be able to give out belts under Golden ownership. Oh well i'll keep reading the magazine though!Comment
