Will Pavlik’s Gimme’ Lead Us To Abraham

By Cliff Rold - 25-year old World Middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik (33-0, 29 KO, Lineal/Ring/WBC/WBO) of Columbus, Ohio isn’t the first young champion to stock up for the future with a payday by way of gimme’ opponent. It’s a fairly standard tradition. After four tough fights in a row against the likes of Jose Luis Zertuche, Edison Miranda and former champion Jermain Taylor (twice), no one will fault Team Pavlik for putting the engine in neutral for a spell. Hard to comment here. I love how Pavlik fights and really dont see a way he can be beat right now. But, if the best in weight fight the best, lets pray for this one.

This would be a great fight. 2 big punchers with decent skill. IMO it's a pick'em fight although I know most of you like Pavlik big.

Seriously he is NOT from Columbus, Ohio, how can you write an article and be wrong about where he is from? He's is from Youngstown which is 2 1/2 hours from Columbus....Anyways bring on Abraham...

I can see him fighting another mandatory first to help build his name up.

I hope we will see. Abraham might not be as skilled as Taylor but he packs a good wallop. Pavliks chin isn't exactly granite. Abrahams chin is great as we all know from the Miranda fight.

I believe Pavlik will get a few scares in this one.

Abraham has better defense, chin, and one-punch power than Pavlik. More importantly, he has the style to beat Kelly, the patience to get inside and explode short, well chosen syncopated hooks.

I hope Abraham gets on the undercard, and I'll be there June 7

Abraham/Pavlik would be nice if it happened later this year. It would be a matchup of probably the two best MW's at the moment since JT is probably moving up. I think Pavlik would win the fight, but Abraham might give him some problems.
