  • Cotto Must Destroy Gomez....

I really think he has to absolutely destroy Gomez, like a three round blowout at most, to gain Mayweather's attention and the general publics. If this fight is competitive at all, i think his stock drops a lot, so now Im thinking its a pretty risky fight and there is going to be a lot pressure on Cotto which can cause problems.

I just dont think Cotto is training like he did for Zab and Shane, and he might run into some problems. What do yall think? If this fight is competitve and goes deep into later rounds, does Cotto still have the straight path to Floyd or will someone else sneak into that spot such as the winner of Judah-Mosley if its an exciting fight.

I think if Cotto struggles with Gomez, his stock will drop slightly, but not dramatically. He should still be first in line to fight Floyd assuming he also successfully defends his title against Margarito / Cintron.

Yeah i rekon if Gomez gives him a lot (or some) trouble loyd will say 'look at who fought, Alfonso who? this guy from the contender gave him hell so why should he get a shot at the p4p number 1 in the world?'

and really thats a pretty goo dreason as far as excuses go, at least he didnt say 'he insulted me bohooooo' like Ricky does bout Witter eh?

Dude it's a tune up.. what he needs to do is shine against Margarito or Cintron!
The Gomez fight is of little or no significance.

I know its a tune-up, and selling it like that is what Im saying could be a problem. Theres going to be a lot of pressure on Miguel to win in spectacular fashion because everybody is acknowleding this is an "easy" fight, if he has the slightest bit of trouble in this tune-up, which im getting a feeling he will, it just makes it easier to bypass him for a mega fight, similar to DelaHoya-Forbes but luckily for Oscar his name is gold so i dont think his performance against Forbes matters as long as he wins.

Cotto just needs the W. If he looks bad that may be more attractive to Mayweather or even De La Hoya for that matter.. Oscar still doesn't have an opponent for December.

Right now it's all about how big of a draw Cotto can become to get a shot at Floyd. Floyd has nothing left to prove in his mind and to the general public. There will always be fans that want him to fight this guy, then that guy, then those guys. No one is ever happy and Floyd knows this. If he only has 4 or 5 good fights left in him, why should he fight all the top contenders opposed to the top money making fights? History? None of the top contenders are considered great fighters, so even if he beats them all, I'm sure the significants isn't as important as the extra millions he'll make fighting the other guys. Money is what it's all about, that's why Cotto must win very impressive to convince more people he can actually beat Mayweather. A lot of people thought Hatton had a good chance to beat Floyd, but Floyd blew him away. In the proses Floyd's stock rose, now Cotto must really rise his stock to get a shot. I think Cotto hurt his stock when he fought Mosley. Cotto will be lucky if he ever gets a shot.
