Gatti if he still counts as a current fighter.
about your list: Pavlik I would agree if you're talking about pre Taylor cuz he has changed his style since the 2nd round of his first meeting with Taylor. and I would have to disagree with Cotto and Pacquiao.Comment

Before you make a point learn how to spell.WTf is wrong with u ? do u realise that cotto has a very high guard plus is a technical fighter to protect his fine china? also pavlik is a maybe and so is pac but the rest proberly yes.
Dum thread and u said some dum names e.g. pavlik, pac and cotto were ur dum names.
Any fighter can get brain damage if they take clean shots like duddy for a long career but i dont see that happening to pavlik, pac and cotto thats jus crazy lol.
"Kelly Pavlik better get those big fights now, he's already starting to talk like Elmer Fudd" - Bernard Hopkins
Pavlik and Duddy both have the same problem, they have a high guard but they can't see A LOT of the shots coming.. Look at how many HARD right hands Cotto took from Mosley.Comment

That's because Jake LaMotta was not some terrible defensive fighter.Rofl do i need to spell perfectly on a boxing forum? stfu please rofl no wonder u got a red bar you dum ass u insulted them fighters u named by sayin there style can lead to brain damage which is a load of crap.
Lack of defense = brain damage
Balooning = Brain damage
Now stfu styles dont give people brain damage jus look at jake lamotta u dum fudge.
Just because you saw the movie Raging Bull, or some ESPN Classic clips of a dead-tired LaMotta getting hit repeatedly by the greatest fighter in history or him getting hit a lot at the end of his career when he was a shell of his former self (hell, he is considered by many to be past his prime when he finally won the title against Cerdan), it doesn't mean his style was a defenseless one that made him an extremely high risk for brain damage.
LaMotta was known for being a clever boxer who used his shoulders to avoid clean shots. He didn't beat or compete on even levels with quality fighters like Robinson, Basora, Williams, Satterfield, etc...by not having a solid defense.
He wasn't called "Slippery Jake" by Joe Louis because he had no defense.
Furthermore, you left out one of the biggest factors in brain damage that often doesn't get mentioned.
Sparring.
Terry Norris doesn't slur his words today because he had ****ty defense and weight problems.Comment

Re: Current Fighters Who's Style Could Lead to Potential Brain Damage
Roy Jones Jr.: Right now he allows every opponent to pound him out on ropes...he has consistently been doing as far back the Vinny Pazianza fight.
Evander Holyfield: A true warrior, but his time has past...but is amazing at his age he can compete and beat many top 10 fighters. His philly shell defense isn't to great and he has been the guy that will take some to give some. Just check his speech right now...not so good.
Paul Williams: A good up and coming fighter, but if he doesn't improve his defense he gonna have problems too. I have always said that the Margarita fight exposed him...he needs work if he gonna be great.
Lamon Brewster: A good heavy weight that just doesn't take his opportunities seriously in my opinion. He takes waaaaaaaaay too many shots, even from a lower tier guy like Kelly Mehan.
Vernon Forrest: A great fighter, but doesn't consistently use his height to his advantage allowing a lot of unnecessary shots to get in. He likes to stand flat footed at times which allowed Mayorga to connect in both fights.
Macho Camacho Jr.: He was pushed waaay too fast. He has already taken a lot of shots and heartbreak losses. If he doesn't take it back to square one and reinvent himself, then he'll probably get injured over time unfortunately.
I can't really think of any others but I'm sure there are more. I don't really agree with Kelly Pavlik because in general he has a pretty safe style. When you look at a future potential fights at 160, then I think he is pretty safe with his style. I agree with Gomez and Diaz...these guys take a lot of punches. Gomez actually has more tools to work with so I imagine he could some better training or different training to use his feet more to avoid shots.Comment

Yep. The name of the game is to hit the other guy in the head. By taking punches to the head you get a concussive reaction. So the answer to the ? is every fighter who spars and fights has a potential. That's because Jake LaMotta was not some terrible defensive fighter.

Regarding ThreadStealers sparring point let me add that Philly fighters are/were renowned for their gym-wars. Look at Meldrick Taylor and the sorry state he is in today. The tough sparring could very well have had a major impact.Comment

That guy has been in enough wars in prize fights, and I remember during one of his fights Gil Clancy commentating and talking about the gym wars he was in, being a Philly guy.
