This Should be the Litmus Test for Greatness

How many fighters someone has beaten who were in the P4P at the time of the fight. Here is how it breaks down for The Ring's current P4P fighters:

    Mayweather: 1 (Hatton)

    Pacquiao: 3 (Barrera, Morales, JMM)

    JMM: 1 (Barrera)

Hopkins: 4 (Trinidad, Tarver, Wright, Calzaghe)

    Calzaghe: 0

    Vazquez: 1 (Rafael Marquez)

    Cotto: 0

    Hatton: 1 (Tszyu)

    Pavlik: 1 (Taylor)

    R. Marquez: 1 (Vazquez)

Its a good idea but it doesnt work. Just cause they beat those guys doesn't mean they could beat another pund for punder really. And anyway Hopkins hasn;t beat Calzaghe, nor will he so add 1 to Calzaghe.

Greatness is about fighting and beating the best of your generation. Anyone who has beaten a lot of P4P fighters will certainly be considered a great fighter. DLH has fought a lot of P4P fighters, but he has only beaten 1 (Whitaker).

corrales was #5 when floyd fought him...

Morales was inexplicably on the list even though he lost to Zahir Raheem....so i dont think that should count...i mean winky was #3 an he's out cus he lost to #6 morales lost to a fringe top 10 lightweight....

Taylor wasnt on the list when he fought Pavlik.....

Vazquez wasnt on the list when Marquez beat him.....

and hopkins and calzaghe havent even fought...
and pacquiao jmm was a draw...

Pound 4 Pound is bull**** and is only based on speculation and peoples opinions.
Besides, Hopkins fought a much smaller Trinidad and a smaller Winky.. How is that honorable?

so basically your post is bull****.....

p4p is supposedly who would win if they were the same size...subjectivity at its finest...that people try to rationalise with records....

Diego Corrales was top 5 P4P at the time Floyd defeated him.

Doesn't work at all because there are so many weight classes, but only ten P4P slots at a given time. Fighters in weight classes like strawweight, cruiserweight, and very often heavyweight would be perpetually screwed if this were the only measuring stick. Especially the lighter weight divisions (below featherweight) tend to almost never have more than 1 fighter in a weight class in P4P lists at a given time (frequently a reflection of the bias of these lists, not willing to give up more than one slot). You have to look at it by weight division.
