A prime (younger) Calzaghe would likely give any Hopkins his only KO loss
Ok, Prime vs Prime Joe Calzaghe vs Bernard Hopkins?

Do you actually believe that a fighter that does not turn over on his punches(slapping) could stop one of the toughest fighters in middleweight history? Hopkins has a granite chin and in my opinion, the fighter that has the best chance to stop him was Gerald Mcclenn.Last edited by slicksouthpaw16; 03-14-2008, 03:48 AM.Comment

My thoughts exactly! We have no idea how either of them will react to each others style. They are both spoilers and both have great boxing skills and while Hopkins' are a bit more polished and we all know how good and smart he is, Calzaghes are underestimated and his defensive tricks and awkward angles and volume punching would be a struggle for anyone at any stage.
But, until I see how they match up against each other I don't think anyone can start talking about who wins in their relative primes. We might find out that Hopkins is still in more of his prime and Calzaghe has lost it! Although I doubt it, but most people are still underestimating Hopkins for this fight. He still has some serious fight left in him and contrary to what everyone here thinks Calzaghes 1000 punches a fight is not going to get it done. Hopkins is too smart to let someone how throws a million punches beat him just because of that. Anyway, Calzaghe has a whole lot more to offer than just a lot of punches.Comment

Now that really is hilarious! Hopkins has never been close to being stopped and he has faced much harder punchers than Calzaghe. This fight would only end one way and that is on a points decision for one of them.
Agreed. Even then I doubt McClellan would be able to stop him but he has a much larger chance than Calzaghe or anyone else from around his generation I can think of. What I'm still baffled about though is people are talking as if Calzaghe has whipped him already! They haven't even fought yet people!!!

Until they do, no one will know what a fight with them will go like. Calzaghe might be a perfect style for Hopkins and vice versa. Hopkins might be able to take out Calzaghes punch output with his dirty, scrambling awkward tactics and turn into a scrappy, messy slow fight or Calzaghe might be able to tag Hopkins with his lefty jab and fight with angles and speed, in and out, box and brawl.
We have no idea so why don't we wait for this fight or predict what might happen now instead of talking as if it's a foregone conclusion already. I think many, many people are going to get a big surprise with this fight.Comment

Two spoilers, one more active, the other crafty.
A lot of people are saying that the volume of punches that Calzaghe puts out will beat Hopkins - Hopkins is not Lacey. Hopkins will not allow Calzaghe to open up on him. Hopkins rough house tactics can not be compared to Bika, Hopkins as the ability to take Joe to places he hasn't and probably doesn't want to go.
If these two met in their respected primes it would of been a classic fight.
Also nobody as touched on the fighter joe will be after he's fought hopkins win or lose... as we all know nobody fights the same after facing hopkins.Comment
