I think initially Gomez should come out and see if how well he can counter Cotto's jab with an overhand right. If he is able to do this well then Gomez should box Cotto with jabs and counter right hands......Mosley landed those overhand rights nicely but they weren't over Cotto's jab they were mostly in the exchanges.

If Gomez can't counter with the right he would have to try and make it a war similar to Torres/Cotto. Otherwise Gomez will be worn down by the power jab, body blows and low blows (threw that in for you addison ).

Gomez's chin isn't the issue, it's how well he can take Cotto's body shots. His chin has been pretty throughly tested and is very good.

I think he's going to be sticking and moving, he'll try to outbox Cotto by moving around the ring and throwing punches and move or clinch whenever Cotto gets close.

Miguel Cotto is going to make Alfonso Gomez look very bad. I doubt Gomez wins one round.

Gomez is capable of brawling for a few rounds. He assimilates hard hits well. He will get one of the first 3 rounds if he doesn't get KTFO first. If the fight goes to rounds 4-5 or even later, Gomez will not be scoring much points while shelling his way to block body shots. Cotto by KO.

Think about that though, how effective do you think Gomez can be sticking and moving? He's not exactly Ray Robinson with the way he moves in there.

The poster who said Gomez has to come out bombing has the right idea. I think he needs to get Cotto in trouble early and try to end things then. The fight gets worse for Gomez the longer it goes.

I know, it probably won't be too effective, especially going down the stretch but through all the media interviews, he's been saying how he's a better boxer than Cotto a better counterpuncher than Cotto, he hasn't said anything about putting Cotto under pressure, that's why I think his strategy will be to outbox Cotto. It doesn't mean I think it's the most effective strategy.

Edit: Coming out and bombing away at Cotto may not be his best strategy either because he's not a powerful puncher, I think it'd play right into Cotto's hands if he came out like that.
