Wow, Ruiz used to be really good!...7 years ago

this was him 10 years ago, he actually looks like a real fighter! and his opponent wasnt really all that much of a bum either!

its too bad, he actually was a real good fighter up until the Holyfield fights. those were very tough for him, and by the third Holyfield fight(that a lot of people thought he lost) he had started turning into the hugger that we all know. he went downhill quick, starting at the Kirk Johnson fight.

the Holyfield fights really took a lot out of him. he even was able to drop Holyfield in the second fight, which ought to mean something, because this was when Holyfield wasnt shot and hadnt been demolished by guys like James Toney or old ass Larry Donald...but after those fights, Ruiz got a few wins, like against Rahman and Valuev...but also lost to guys like Roy Jones, old Golota, James Toney

Dunno bout you guys, but I wish we had the Ruiz of 7-10 years ago, who was 26-29 and weighed in the 220s who actually fought, instead of the Ruiz today who is 36, averages around 240 lbs and gets wins just because he has the best stamina out of all the heavyweights and can one-hit-and-hold better than anyone else.

but lets give Ruiz credit...Hes been in the top 10 for a long, long time, and knows how to get a win...

He was a good boxer puncher until he fought Tua.

From that point on he changed his style completely.

Interesting you mention this, I saw this fight again just tonight.... the first left hook, the ropes held him up, but it shoulda been called a KD. The last left hook, while he was on the ropes, is what really put him out. SO IF, the ref called it a KD like he should've, he mighta got enough time to recover and it might have changed the fight...

Technically yes that first left hook should have resulted in what looked like a knockdown perhaps.

Really if the ref did let that go on further Ruiz could have been seriously hurt.
Im trying to say that after the first hook, Ruiz went backwards into the ropes that held him up. Shoulda been called a knockdown, that call MAY have changed the fight, but maybe not...

I deleted my first post because it was redundant. I do agree the first left hook should have resulted in a KD.

The ref made the right call though. Ruiz instantly returned fire with a 1-2 right after that.

Eh, even if he called it a KD, the hook ****ed him up good, probably wouldnt make a difference...
