Chris Arreola not a natural Heavyweight?

I was watching a few of his fights this morning. although this guy is slow he's got decent power. anyway in his interviews he was saying that he fought as low as welterweight and then a middleweight. so i did some research and he wasnt bull****ting. i figured that it was back when he was a kid. but his bio on wikipedia states that he was still a light-heavy at 20 years old when amateur and probably fought on at 175 for a good couple of years.

he did turn pro at heavy. explaining that mexican food blew him up as high as 280 lol. so i was wondering did he really eat himself into that limit cuz he was pretty skinny then, or did he just got grow into the weight as he matured and became older. there are some late bloomers out there.

so does that make him a real heavyweight? cuz when other guys gain weight, people start calling them blown ups and not really true to that weight class.

does chris get a pass because he's so big now?

yep, maybe being that tall helped him carry weight better, and be more proportioned. he still looks soft though. the only other tall skinny guy that comes to mind is Gerry Cooney who at the start was a 6'5 middleweight. ive seen his mateur fight where he fought for golden gloves and he looked long and thin. he too like chris turned pro heavy. but i suppouse chris was always tall and skinny untill he turned beast.

but does that make him natural? im just askin because we've seen so many other guys move to heavy and become legit and succesful fighters yet people still make a fuss about them being "blown up" and not true to that weight. chris did turn pro heavy so maybe that's why people dont really give a ****.

still he was really light at age when your body stops growth, so that doesnt make him natural, right?

          I've never seen him....there is a response...lol. Messin'

Looking at guys like Chagaev and Ibragimov they could feasibly be cruisers couldn't they, they are much smaller men than Haye and even Maccarinelli.

It's like they've made a conscious decision to fight were the money is.

i've seen couple of ibragimov fights and some hilites of chagaev, whom they call "white tyson" (lol what bs, he's not even close), both these guys are short and have no muscle definition. i could be wrong but i think they fought heavy as amateurs. without their fat, and with quality muscle they could have made cruiserweight limit comfortably though.

arreola is a suspect on the other hand, even in the interview he admits that he's not a real heavyweight. check it out

he was a lighheavy but turned pro at 234 eating his way into the limit. yet people make no special deal about it.

when holy moved into the heavyweight division, conditioned his body into a muscular block of muscles and beat the **** out of some tough heavies they called him a cruiser or a light heavy in 'heavyweight clothing'. i never heard any statements like that about arreola, when he clearly himself admits that he's not a heavyweight. he's big yeah, but anyone can eat himself to the scale and call himself the heavyweight champion.

arreola says that he never thought he'd be a heavyweight, and that he fought as a welterweight. heavyweight condender fought as a welterweight for ****s sake.

He's 6'4 so I would say he's a natural HW. That's a big mexican for sure. Im hispanic as well and stand at 6'1 and as far as my spanish friends go Im pretty much the tallest. I've watched him fight a couple times and he's fun to watch, just like a mexican fighter except at HW. He comes with pressure and has good power. This year though I would like to see him step up and get a fight against a known HW.

yep, mexicans are usually the little guys of boxing. no offense, there are tons of great latino fighters dominating the lower weight classes, they are true warriors and fun to watch. chris is an exciting fighter and he's got personality.

he's tall for sure, but looking at his body, you could see that flab on him. his main asset is his height, which technically does make him a "big guy". but majority of big guys develop more muscle mass, thus fully growing into their body. if you strip arreola of that chunky fat he's carrying he'd fight as a tall cruiser. to me what identifies a heavyweight is the size. muscle weighs more than fat, and in the sport like boxing, for each athlete every hard pound makes a difference. and again im not hating on chris, i actually enjoy watching him in action, but the amount of flab he's carrying suggests to me that's not a full grown heavyweight. the body definition says it all.
