On Arpil 19th, no matter the outcome of the fight between Hopkins and Calzaghe, boxing fans from both sides of the Atlantic will have to give credit where credit is due!
Joe Calzaghe may not have fought the BIG name dudes, but he's beaten EVERY mandatory challenger and EVERY champ is his division! No man has ever defended their world title consectively more than Calz! Besides Floyd Calz is the only other boxer left in the game with the ability to overwhelm opponents with speed! Calz doent get enough credit for his chin cuz he seems so dominant with his ability to throw punches in bunches, but Joe can take it just as good as he can give it! RESPECT!
Bernard Hopkins is arguably the SMARTEST fighter in the game today! He became the Undisputed Middleweight champ at age 39, he wins fights in the second half, so he's livin proof that phrase "It Gets Greater Later" is the truth! He's probably the best counter puncher north of 147, and his undefeated record against southpaws is mainly due to the fact his favorite or best punch is the straight right hand, which is the most effective offense when fighting southpaws. He gave a young JT a title shot, when most OLDER champs would've never looked to fight a young strong undefeated challenger! Bernard took the fight! Nobody wanted Tarver, Bernard did! And finally, at age 43 he's gonna fight the undefeated undisputed SMW champ! RESPECT!
I'm from Philly so I know my boxing, and I know B-Hop won't dissapoint us!
At first I felt Calz was a bit over-rated, but after watching 'bout 20 of his fights all last week-end on DVD, I think he's rated where he belongs! The guy is good! But I didnt see anything Bernard couldnt deal with!
Any way, me and boys here in Philly gotta better understanding of who our man is fighting, and I gotta say, we give Joe credit for being a REAL good fighter, but it hasnt changed our opinions on how the fight will end!
