Survive in boxing maybe. But this fight proves that Diaz is still a LONG way from the P4P elite. His own hype went to his head and he called out pacquaio but clearly they are not on the same level. Campbell pounded away at his pudgy midsection taking him off his game right away. If an old campbell can be effective with it then the sport's hardest puncher would make him puke out his dinner before he hits the mat.

      I dont get it.

Many are acting like either Nate campbell is the new p4p best or that juan diaz is simply garbage...

Hearing some of the stories it sounds as if many are believing diaz got exposed and isnt what most imagained him being and i disagree.

With all the talk going on I believe this calls for a rematch because lets face it; the likelihood of campbell going to to unify the titles and then becoming the champion of the lightweight division is VERY unlikely.

I think he fought a very good fight last saturday but i dont think he won strictly on his own...

That cut on diaz' eye (that originated from a headbutt but opened even bigger by a punch later on) was (i believe) what basically pushed campbell along and gave him the win.

Down the stretch i dont think campbell would have won all those rounds in a row had diaz' not been affected by and favoring that left eye.

you all seen it; he kept that left hand up around the eye for many of the middle to late rounds almost afraid to move his hand for fear of the cut opening even more. he was definately bothered by it and he slowed WAY down once the cut happened.

Look at the fight BEFORE the cut versus WHEN AND AFTER the cut had been opened... tell me it had nothing to do with the cut and purely campbell's great ability in the ring?

All campbell did (in my opinion) is what a veteran fighter SHOULD do and that is exploit that cut and take advantage of it...

I'm not saying campbell isnt a good fighter or that he didnt give his best but i dont think diaz was that bad or is that bad...or is a prospect whp met his match and was exposed for being a B level fighter...

i dont believe that one bit.

I think a rematch should take place to determine if the cut REALLY made the difference in the fight or if campbell REALLY is that much better than Diaz...

i think its fair...if campbell is that much better than diaz he'll win again...if diaz really lost on the cut then he'll win...

i think it helps clear the drama for both sides and everyone wins (including the fans...)

      agree?

He was never big on himself, he was always very humble and he beat some good fighters. He is still a young boxer. If you're talking about Pacquiao, his people didn't want anything to do with Juan Diaz, that right there should have prevented you from posting some ignorant ****.

i thought this was a good article. i'm a big baby bull fan. the kid will be back with a college degree in his hand, and he'll work his way back to the top.

campbell fought the fight of his life, and diaz didn't. that's all there is to it.

agrees, diaz was mentally affected by the cut more than anything. campbell won fair and square, but its possible for diaz to win the rematch. he just needs to get another strategy besides what he currently does if he wants to advance farther.

PARTING SHOT: Former king of the four-rounder Eric “Butterbean” Esch will be in my hometown of Atlantic City, NJ in the coming weeks to promote Yamma Pit Fighting, a new MMA organization founded by the original owner of the UFC. Maybe I can convince him to fight Kimbo Slice, as I suggested in my column last month. Anything’s better than Ken Shamrock, right?
Butterbean already said he wanted to fight Kimbo, why is this guy acting like he has to convince him, like hes going at him with some great idea, when Butterbean himself already mentioned it.

I'm disappointed, I really thought Juan Diaz is the man to beat at lightweight... but he got exposed by Campbell...
I was expecting a J.Diaz vs Pacquiao Superfight next year...

I do believed Pacquiao's people are avoiding J.Diaz at this moment, but I also believed that they'll take that fight sometime next year...
The loss on J.Diaz made this fight less appealing!!!

Nonetheless, Pacquiao will win over J.Diaz if they fight!!!

Wladimir still well beat him again, but I think he will have to be more aggressive to do it this time, which will put him at risk.

I stand by my commentary. His last two fights showed regression more so than progression. Read Dougie Fischer's Monday Mail Bag, we seemed to be viewing the same regression in technique. What I saw in the second Toney fight was impressive and the key word here is skillful however Saturday night showed an out of shape fighter in Peter who was also hurt a few times despite what you thought you saw.
