Juan Diaz Was Not Beloved Like Other Mexican Champions

Ive never seen a title fight in Mexico where the crowd was not into it as this past Saturday. They hardly cheered, didnt seem like Diaz even had much of a following. Sam Peter even seemed to have more fans in attendance. Some of it has to do with Juan not being born in Mexico, but I dont think he was promoted well in the fact of making him a household name. Unless you are a boxing fan you really dont know who he is. He defended his title 8 times, anybody doing that should be well known, thats a shame. No real outpour from the fans after the decison either, some started a BS chant but no real discord. Nate came in with bullfighter attire and played both roles of bullfighter and bull, good fight.

I heard the fans cheering "Mexico, Mexico, Mexico" all through the fight. I don't know what you heard. It was alos in Cancun, don't know Cancun to be a boxing town.

Yup, if anything boxing isn't popular in Mexico other then a couple states in the north.

But anyway, Americans don't see Mexican Americans aren't accepted by white Americans and Mexicans don't see them as true Mexicans so you can't really blame the boy.. Plus Cancun isn't known for boxing.

There were loud cheers of "Mexico! Mexico! Mexico!" and "Torito! Torito! Torito!" towards the end of the fight.

I always held him in high regards as a fighter (still do)......from what I saw. I mean it's like he was at the same "prospect" level for years lol. But no I never was an actual fan of Diaz where I'd pull for him to beat another fighter.

          I don't like his Mama's boy personality.

I heard chants of Mexico big deal. You can tell when fans really love their fighter because they scream and cheer even when he isnt landing punches like they do for Trinidad and Oscar. Diaz walked to the ring unscathed, nobody was leaning over trying to touch him or screaming for him during his walk, it just wasnt the same, not saying its his fault, but something that was easily noticed.
