Nate Campbell on Juan Diaz and his Future

GL: Cong**** on your career defining victory, can you give us some thoughts on your performance? "I thought I performed very well. I could have boxed more, but I didn't want to give him any inclination that he could win this fight so I fought him the way he fought. They said I couldn't fight with him and I proved to that they were wrong."

GL: What did you ask him before the fight?

Nate Campbell: "I told him before I would take him to hell, I asked him before the fight if he was ready to go to hell."

GL: Was there anything about Diaz that surprised you at all? And at what point of the fight did you feel like you were in complete control going toe-to-toe with him?

NC: "He surprised me that he was actually holding on. He held so much more than I thought he would. He surprised that he had so much heart. He had a lot more heart than I thought he would. I knew I was not going to have any problem going toe-to-toe with him from the moment we signed the contract."

GL: Before the fight you said the fight would last as long as he could take it. Were you surprised by how much he was able to take?

NC: "Yes, but you could tell he's going to have a purple and blue body. You could see how red his body was after the fight. He actually resorted to fighting with his hands down like Kid Diamond from the body shots. They were trying to say I head butted him, but replay shows that wasn't the case."

GL: The replay clearly shows that you cut him with an looping jab over the top. How disappointed were you after that ruling and did the thought of possibly losing a technical discussion over a blown call ever cross your mind?

NC: "You know what? If you noticed, right after they took that point off we went to war. I stood toe-to-toe with him and I let him know it doesn't matter what they do, he's got to be willing to take this."

GL: What does this victory mean to you?

NC: "It means everything to me. It really hasn't hit me yet. I don't know how I feel right now. I'm happy, but I'm not elated yet. I knew I could do it, but I'm still kind of like in a haze. The beautiful thing about being in this position is that everything goes through me now. And you know I like to fight so now I'm going to be able to fight more."

GL: Were you relieved when Don King and Diaz parted ways before the fight?

NC: "I couldn't care less what happened between him and Juan Diaz, I knew I was going in there to take care of my business and that's what I did."

GL: After every round it seemed like Diaz was ten second late in getting off the stool...

NC: (cutting in) "And you noticed what I did, I came all the way to the middle of the ring. I made the little guy fight. I bullied the bully just like I said I would. I told you I like bullies."

GL: You came out with a matador outfit and fought like a bull.

NC: "Sometimes you gotta grab the bull by the horns. I told everybody, I never thought Juan was a bad fighter, I just didn't think he could compete with me. Who has he fought that makes him more special than anyone else I fought? The beautiful thing is they make these guys out to be great before they deserve that."

GL: Now you've got three of the belts, do you plan on keeping all of three of them?

NC: "Every last one of them, I earned them and if they want them they're going to have to come get them."

GL: Is the winner of Casamayor-Katsidis the fight you want the most?

NC: "So much more than anybody else. So much more. I didn't seem like the old fighter last night and I'm ready to outbox, and outfight all of these guys. I earned these titles, I'm not letting these go after waiting so long for them."

    GL: Closing thoughts?

NC: "I want to thank all of my fans for all of their support. It's been a long time coming and I'm so thankful that I got the opportunity. With my promoters Don King and Terry Trekas, the sky is going to be the limit for me. I'm still hungry, and I thank God for being able to do what I said I would do. I want to be everything there is to be in this division and I want to bring boxing something back that it's missing, true champions fighting the best fighters."
Credit to btalk. I feel good for Campbell that he made the most of his last opportunity, I think Juan should get a rematch but I don't think it'll happen because Campbell is partially controlled by King, I'd give him a good chance to beat the winner of Katsidis-Casamayor.
