I still dont know exactly whether or not anything from Enzo hit the decks with the first punch, though he certainly held onto the ropes. From the replays I saw, nothing Haye threw landed with any significance in that little flurry afterwards until the shot that ended it.

IMO you let a Champion who beats the count, has his gloves up, and wants to continue, fight. If he obviously can't defend himself, then you step in and waive it off.

He barely lifted his gloves up.

He was allover the place, even 5 minutes after the fight he was stumbling around the ring, essentially the ref would have been delaying the inevitable and risking a boxers heath at the same time. Most boxers are too proud to accept they can't continue and will always say "I'm alright" it's the refs job to protect them and wave the fight when it's clear a boxer is out of it. Enzo was out of it.

A lot of the time I would agree, Refs get very twitchy nowadays especially some of the English guys. But in this case the ref had an easy decision, if you let fights like that continue people end up seriously hurt.
