Ricky Hatton signs with De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions

LOS ANGELES (AP)—Former two-division champion Ricky Hatton signed with Golden Boy Promotions on Friday, adding another big-name boxer to Oscar De La Hoya’s growing list.
Hatton, the beloved English fighter who lost a high-profile fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. in December, has been expected to sign a multifight deal with Golden Boy ever since the company co-promoted that lucrative bout.
Hatton won several big fights as a junior welterweight over the last three years, earning a vocal following of British fans who travel to Las Vegas for his biggest bouts. He was knocked out by Mayweather in the 10th round of their welterweight fight, blemishing his previously unbeaten record.
“He’s a fighter universally loved by fight fans because of his heart and aggressive style,” De La Hoya said. “We’re all expecting even bigger and better things from him in the coming months.”
Hatton (43-1, 31 KOs) is expected to fight Juan Lazcano this May in Manchester, Hatton’s hometown. Everyone from De La Hoya to Manny Pacquiao has been discussed as a future opponent for Hatton.
