Munroe Upsets Kiko Martinez, Wins Decision

In a decent upset, Rendall Munroe (14-1, 6KOs) was able to edge undefeated Kiko Martinez to win the Euro super bantamweight title in Nottingham. The win by majority decision saw scorecards of 115-113, 115-113 and 114-114. Martinez made a name for himself in 2007 after blowing out prospect Bernard Dunne in a single round. [details]

I was there. Impressive display from Munroe, but he is far from ready for the World Stage at this point. If he gets the right opponents in the next 18 months, then he could be a recognised name in no time. It was the first time i had seen the lad fight, but i'll be routing for him.

Yes, I watched it too last night and it was a great result for Munroe. But if he wants to improve and continue up the ladder of success he's going to have to work on his punching power. Some of the pitter-patter taps he was putting in last night were embarrassing. I was expecting more from Kiko but it seems that if he can't get in with a power punch then he's a bit lost.
