I'm in the process of completing a project for my Sports Management 200 class that requires us to write out our own Nike commercial and use terms such as voyeurism, metacommunication, irony, narcissism, etc. throughout the commercial without having to actually mention them. The paper that comes along with the commercial is a big part of the class, and I along with my partner decided to do it on Kelly Pavlik.
It will focus a lot on how he's an "every man", living with his parents while he trains (perhaps his mom even trips over his "stuff" that he left on the ground - that stuff being a world championship belt or two), being bald, lanky and pale, and not looking like your normal star athletes. However, once he gets into the gym, as Jim Lampley says "everything about him is search and destroy".
Once I finish the project I'll post it up here for everybody to read and give me feedback on.
